Bar Cart: Up Close + Personal

I've been getting a lot of love in regards to the industrial bar cart I designed + made for my friend. (Thanks all!)

Life Designed DIY Industrial Bar Cart
When I brought it over to my friend's house, my cousin who happens to be married to her sister, took a series of detailed pictures of the cart using his SLR. Gotta love SLRs...
You can totally see the difference from my point and shoot camera (above) and his shots (below)! Thanks cousin!

What's missing from my original post are the casters. What casters you say? I know, you can't see them but they're there! I guess you can sort of infer that they are there as the cart appears to be floating.

A little problem I encountered when attaching the casters was that it made the cart a wee bit tippy. Not too badly, but I have a fear that one day a kid will grab it and the whole thing will fall down on them! Not good. Not good at all.
I needed to attach the casters closer to the front and back edges but the pipes holding up the shelf were in the way.

In case you're wondering, I used 1-1/4" casters from Home Depot which I like because they swivel making it easier to roll the this heavy thing around.
But they aren't the prettiest looking thing huh? Well good thing you can't see them!

What I would like to do one day is maybe (depending on my friend) trade these casters for something that makes more of a statement:

These would be awesome. If I can find them for a 1/4 of the price. =)
Hope you enjoyed the shots and thanks again for your support with my first furniture piece!

The original post can be found here.

PS A couple weeks ago my friend and I made a matching TV console which you can check out here.

OH and I was at the new 49th Parallel coffee shop by my house which has an uber cool industrial interior and look what I spotted in the corner:

That's one cool cart! I LOVE the handle/towel rack!

  1. I really love this cart. Great job! I do have a question though. In regards to the lower shelf; particularly the pipes there in the middle, how are they connected under the plank? Would you be able to post a picture of under there?

  2. I love love this. Any chance you'll do a tutorial with paint color, exact pieces of pipe and how many, stain color etc. That's my favorite part of you top bloggers. The sharing of sources. One of my faces is Centsational Girl who gives up everything, including all of us finding you. Please let me know if you do!! Thanks, I'm following you now though also.

  3. How did you go about building the cart so all the pipes could properly attach together?
