Posting Images Of Your Kids- Yay or Nay?

This is an issue I've been thinking a lot about lately.

I had pictures of my nephew with the back to school frame that I made for him but at the last minute I deleted them from the post.

The first time I posted a picture of my nephews, I blocked their faces because my sister and BIL didn't want their faces on the internet.

A couple weeks ago I asked my other sister and BIL if I could post a picture of their daughter on the bench I had repainted. They were fine with it, so I did. However I just recently took the picture down.
I took pictures of my nephew holding up the frame I made for him and this time, my sister said it was ok to post his picture- but I could tell she was reluctant to say yes.
So the other day, I was all set to post his pictures with the frame but then I read Not Just A Housewife's blog about Stacy's family pictures being stolen, not once, but twice. The watermark she put on her images were cropped off and her and her kids were all over the internet with various captions- some funny, some not. Some sites claimed the pictures as their own, none of them linked back to Stacy's blog and the worst part: people were leaving horrendous comments on these newly cropped images that were stolen and taken out of context.

This got me to rethink putting up images of my loved ones. I could care less if MY picture was out there being talked about but when it comes to the little ones? No way. (Actually, that's not true. I do care, but just not nearly as much as I care about the kids!)

I could continue to post images with the kids faces blocked like this but I think it looks weird...It really is such a shame that a handful of thieves out there ruin it for the rest of us.

If people steal my work, that's one thing (a very very bad thing!) but for them to steal images of my niece/nephews is a whole different ballgame. Just the possibility of it makes me uneasy enough to not post pictures. Too bad. They're really cute! =)

Speaking of having work stolen...this also happened to Stacy. The poor lady.

Those of you who read my posts through feed burner (email subscription) you'll notice a change. You will now only receive a truncated post and you have to come to my blog to read the full entry.

Sorry if this bothers some of you but apparently some sites out there can steal your content otherwise. I don't know the ins and outs of it but it has happened not just to Stacy but to a lot of bloggers who now have to truncate their feeds.

Sorry for the downer post. I felt really sad when I read all the stuff happening at Not Just A Housewife. It takes the fun out of blogging, you know?
